BACKGROUND
I'm so excited to bring you my first book, which is a combination of my two true passions in life - weather and Christmas!
I wanted to make this story as real as possible by taking weather events which have actually occurred around the world in recent years and combine those with the tale as old as time of Santa and his annual delivery of Christmas presents.
If there's one person in the world who will have experienced some of the worst weather conditions it's Santa, from the ice melting under his feet in the North Pole to the bizarre and extreme conditions being seen around the globe.
I hope this book serves as an early introduction to climate change for our children. They are the ones likely to be most affected by it, but they also hold the key to its resolution. By understanding these challenges, they can help ensure a brighter future for themselves—and a smoother journey for Santa.
As another sign of hope, I found the incredibly talented children's illustrator Anastasia Khmelevska, who is based in Lviv, Ukraine. Her beautiful illustrations bring the story to life. Despite the challenges faced in her own country, Anastasia's dedication and artistry shine through, adding an extra layer of inspiration to this project.
Ultimately this is a book which brings hope for a peaceful and bright future.
BOOK SYNOPSIS
As the world experiences climate change, Santa is seeing it first hand as the polar ice melts every summer.
On Christmas Eve his journey to deliver presents is fraught with challenges, from blinding snowstorms to scorching heatwaves, droughts, and floods. Along the way, Santa is joined by some cute koalas escaping the wildfires of Australia, and in Ethiopia a baboon helps deliver the presents to families who have fled drought-stricken parts of the country. The bizarre weather continues as they head across Europe and America.
The weather experienced during Santa’s journey are all based on actual weather events which have occurred in these countries in recent years and could have feasibly occurred during Christmas.
The story takes a heart-warming turn as children become Santa's Ho-Ho Heroes, embracing their role in saving the planet by taking eco-friendly actions. As the world changes over time, Santa's deliveries become easier, and the stowaway koalas find a new home at the North Pole.
Ultimately, the story inspires young readers to become real-life heroes, empowering them to make a positive impact on the world. With the future of our planet in their hands, they hold the key to a brighter and more sustainable future.
