August 2026
July has brought some more extreme heat to some parts of the UK - especially England and Wales. Heatwaves have been more common this summer than any one before!
In Scotland we had some very dry conditions in some areas and this brought wildfires to places like Edinburgh and the Cairngorms.
Despite not being quite as hot in Scotland, it looks like it may turn out to be one of our warmest Julys and it also looks like one of our sunniest for the west of the country.
I'll have a proper update video for you on or before 10 August where we'll also look forward to August, back to school and even the start of autumn...
See you soon!

July 2026
June has been another funny month with temperatures not overly high until the last few weeks and then it went a bit crazy! Parts of England were close to 40C - which is as hot as it gets in places like Turkey in the summer! It's very rare to be this hot, and especially so because summer has just started - so it could get even hotter before the end of August.
In Scotland we had some very warm conditions and even heatwave conditions in the south of the country - although Shetland, Orkney and the Western Isles were much cooler with rain at times.
With the warm weather came a lot of humidity which made it feel a wee bit uncomfortable, perhaps you found it difficult to sleep on some nights?
Also - the THUNDERSTORMS!

June 2026
May was a very strange month for weather! For the first three weeks, many of us were saying, "Brrr, it's too cold!" But then, right at the end of the month, the weather suddenly turned very warm and sunny.
In England, some places even had a heatwave and record breaking heat for May! Heatwaves are something we normally expect during the summer holidays - not this early on in the year!
Here's your look back at May and a look forward to June and your solstice shadow challenge! Have fun!

May 2026
April was a very mixed month with warm sunshine and snow!
You've noticed that the grass is growing quicker, the evenings are getting much lighter and some of you have a few sniffles because of hay fever.
Here's a look back at April and a look ahead to what May might bring...

April 2026
March was another very mixed month with lots of you observing hailstones and event thunderstorms!
It wasn't all bad though with some schools and individual observers around Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen mentioning much drier conditions and sunnier weather.
We're starting the major shift away from winter weather - although snow has still been around and will also feature in our next update in May!
In this month's video I also set you a challenge for the next 4 weeks - will you manage to complete it?! 🐣🌷

January 2026
As 2026 begins, it’s looking like a very wintry start to the year! Some places could see snow, with really cold nights too. ❄️
Happy New Year everyone — enjoy your last few days off before school starts again next week. And who knows… some of you might even be building snowmen soon! ☃️
